Training - Concussion

Concussion Training

Concussions are a serious health concern in youth and adult sports. The Melrose Recreation Department is committed to the safety of our participants and strive to educate our players, parents, and coaches in the dangers of concussion-related injuries.

The Melrose Recreation Department has adopted the following Concussion Management Program to address the identification and proper handling of suspected head injury in participants playing athletic programs.  These procedures serve to provide educational awareness, training, and inform parents and community members of the role they play and their responsibilities in addressing the reality of concussions in sports related head injuries.

ALL COACHES are REQUIRED to complete the free CDC “Heads Up” Concussion Training upon initial assignment and retake every two years.  A virtual certificate of completion will be provided at the conclusion of the training and should be submitted to the Recreation Department at Training - Concussion | Melrose MA (cityofmelrose.org).  A copy should also be retained for their own personal records.

Please Click Here to Upload Your Certificate. (Save in the following format (Last Name, First Name) before uploading)

We strongly encourage all Parents and Participants to review the following Concussion Information Sheet and/or to complete the free CDC "Heads Up" Concussion Training prior to the start of any season.   Please click on the following link for additional resources for Coaches, Parents, Officials, and Youth Athletes.  This information is publicly available at Training - Concussion | Melrose MA (cityofmelrose.org)

Your actions can help create a safe environment for children and adults so that they can stay healthy, active, and thrive - both on and off the playing field!
