The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building (Memorial Hall) is located within the Melrose Town Center Historic District. Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1982, the District is comprised of the core Downtown Melrose Business District and a grouping of religious, cultural, and civic buildings situated on both sides of Main Street.

The Project includes the design of improvements to the roof, masonry, windows, and front steps. The design effort will include:

  • Coordination with the Massachusetts Historical Commission, Melrose Historical Commission, and Melrose Historic District Commission.
  • Coordinate with Solect Energy Development for the planned installation of a 64Kw rooftop solar array.
  • Evaluation of the exterior masonry facade, roofing, windows, and exterior monumental stair to verify the as-built conditions and needed repairs.
  • Evaluated options to provide interior/exterior shading devices for the main auditorium hall.
  • Develop specifications, plans and details, and a construction cost estimate.
  • Prepare 100% Final Design Documents for public bidding in accordance with MGL Chapter 149.

Design is scheduled to be completed by the end of August, 2021 and the project will be bid to Contractors in the Fall of 2021. This work is being managed jointly through the City’s Office of Planning and Community Development and the Engineering Division. The City is funding the entire project.
