Melrose Symphony Presents First-Ever Night of Opera Favorites

On Saturday, March 2, at 8 pm, in Memorial Hall, the Melrose Symphony will share the stage with four spectacular singers for an unforgettable evening of opera blockbusters. 

Mara Bonde, soprano, Krista River, mezzo-soprano, Ethan Bremner, tenor, and Thomas Jones, baritone, will present over a dozen beloved masterpieces often used in popular movies, cartoons, and even TV commercials. 

You'll hear Puccini’s dramatic “Nessun Dorma” from Turandot, made popular by Pavarotti, and used as the theme song for the 1990 FIFA World Cup as well as the Opening Ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics. It has appeared in numerous films including Mission: Impossible - Rogue NationThe Sum of All Fears, and many others.

“Habanera” and the “Toreador Song,” both from Bizet’s Carmen, have been featured in The MuppetsSesame StreetTom and JerryAnimaniacsFamily Guy, and even a Super Bowl commercial for Doritos in 2007.

The “Flower Duet” from Lakmé is best known as the theme song for British Airways. “Vesti la giubba” from Pagliacci is used in a Coca-Cola commercial, an episode of the Simpsons, and haunts Kramer in Seinfeld.

Opera is everywhere in pop culture and the Melrose Symphony is excited to present these well-known masterpieces in their original format.
