Winter Advisory Message from the City of Melrose: Early Closures

A winter weather advisory is in effect today, Tuesday, March 14, for most of Massachusetts until 8 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, due to heavy wet snowfall and winds as high as 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Travel could be difficult beginning Tuesday afternoon and the NWS recommends all drivers slow down, use caution while traveling and keep a flashlight, food, and water in their vehicle in case of an emergency.

Department of Public Works Winter Storm Response


The Melrose Department of Public Works is actively monitoring and addressing weather and road conditions. The DPW will continue to monitor the weather and road conditions throughout the day and night.

The City does not plan to announce a parking ban and does not expect any trash delays because of the weather. Please note that DPW’s plans, and the plans of the City’s trash and recycling collection vendor Republic/JRM, are subject to change.

All snow response efforts by the DPW are intended to prepare City roads, sidewalks, and school parking lots in preparation for Melrose Public Schools opening on time tomorrow. Please note that the Melrose Public School Administration has already sent a half-day/early closure (for today, Tuesday, March 14) alert to students and caregivers.

All Municipal Buildings Will Close Early Today, March 14

With the safety of its employees and residents in mind, all Melrose Municipal Buildings, except for Police and Fire buildings, will close early today, March 14.

  • The Melrose Public Library and City Hall will close at 1 p.m.
  • All Melrose Public Schools will close two (2) hours early.
  • The Milano Center will close at 12:30 p.m.
