Winter Advisory Message from the City of Melrose, Closures & Delays

A winter weather advisory will be in effect for most of Massachusetts beginning tonight at 9 p.m. until Tuesday at 7 p.m. due to snowfall and winds as high as 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Travel will be very difficult late Monday night and Tuesday’s morning commute is a major concern, and the NWS recommends all drivers slow down and use caution while traveling. Department of Public Works Winter Storm Response


The Melrose Department of Public Works will begin pre-treating City roads and sidewalks beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, with snow expected to start close to 11 p.m. DPW will continue to monitor and address weather and road conditions throughout the night. Please note that sidewalks will be cleared and treated after roads.

These efforts by the DPW are intended to prepare City roads, sidewalks, and school parking lots in preparation for Melrose Public Schools opening on time tomorrow. Please note that the Melrose Public School Administration will send out an alert to students and caregivers in the event schools will experience a delayed opening or will be closed.

At this time, the City has not called a parking ban and does not expect any trash delays. Please note that DPW’s plans, and the plans of the City’s trash and recycling collection vendor Republic/JRM, are subject to change.

City Hall & the Melrose Public Library Will Have Delayed Openings

With the safety of all City of Melrose employees and residents in mind, the City of Melrose has announced that City Hall and the Melrose Public Library will delay opening tomorrow, Tuesday, February 28. City Hall and the library will open at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28.

Milano Center & Veterans Services Department Will be Closed

The Milano Center will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, February 28. All classes scheduled to take place at the center tomorrow have been canceled and the Senior Dinner has been rescheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 1. In addition, Mystic Valley Elderly Services (MVES) has canceled meal service deliveries for February 28 for all congregate sites.
