W. Emerson/Vinton Street Intersection Improvements Getting Underway

Work is scheduled to begin next week
plan for improvements

The Melrose Department of Public Works Engineering Division, with their traffic engineering consultant, Stantec, have developed plans to reconfigure the intersection at West Emerson St. and Vinton St. in Melrose. Improvements include creating a 4-way stop and realignment of curb ramps and crosswalks. A plan of the proposed work is on the City’s website under Engineering Initiatives.

Work is scheduled to begin September 5 or 6 and should only take a couple of weeks. During this time, motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians are advised to take an alternate route around this area.

The construction will be funded through a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) through their Shared Streets and Spaces Grant Program, which provides funding to municipalities to quickly implement improvements to plazas, sidewalks, curbs, streets, bus stops, parking areas, and other public spaces in support of public health, safe mobility, and strengthened commerce.
