Video: Update for Thursday, March 26

Transcript of Mayor Brodeur's Message:

Good Evening Melrose, this is your mayor Paul Brodeur.

Earlier today the Department of Public Health informed us that there are three new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the City of Melrose, bringing our total to 7.  Rest assured the Melrose Department of Public Health continues to do contact tracing.

I have good news to report from Congress.  The United States Senate last night approved a $2 trillion stimulus package.  The House of Representatives appears poised to pass the bill on Friday.  This legislation will provide billions of dollars to help workers, families, and small businesses. It also provides funds to our cities and towns. As details emerge, I will be sure to keep Melrose informed about how to take advantage of these programs.

And I would be remiss if I did not thank our Congressional delegation for their hard work in advocating for and supporting our community.  Senators Warren and Markey and our Congresswoman Katherine Clark have been tremendous partners in helping us navigate this unprecedented challenge.

And some more good news:

  •  Today our library announced that the Virtual Melrose Public Library is open for business!  Thousands of titles are at your fingertips, hundreds of articles, how to guides, and dozens of databases. Check it out.

  •  I need to again remind you that your community needs your help.  When you practice social distancing, you are helping slow the spread and conserving valuable resources needed by our doctors and nurses.  That means going outside as little as possible.  However, it is OK to go outside for a walk or exercise as long as you maintain social distancing. Melrose is surrounded by incredible walking trails and conservation lands. Get out in nature and take a deep breath. Just play it safe, please.

  • Thanks again for doing the right thing for doing the right thing for our community.  Remember:

a. Stay 6 feet away from others;

b. Wash your hands frequently, and for at least 20 seconds.

c. Cough into your elbow.

d.  Limit your shopping trips to essentials, and go alone.

e.  Check in frequently with families, friends, and neighbors.  Share a kind word.

We are in this for as long as it takes, and we will get through this together.

Thank you for watching.

Good night.
