Video Update for May 6

 This is Mayor Paul Brodeur

As I mentioned last night and you may have seen in the news today, Melrose is planning to deliver masks to every household in the city. The masks and some additional information and resources with be arriving at your door in paper bags starting on Monday.

To make this work as quickly and efficiently as possible, we need your help. If you are available to help prepare these materials for distribution or can take an hour or two to make deliveries, please sign up to volunteer at MelroseHelps.com. It’s safe, walking a route is great exercise, and it will make a real difference in helping your community stay healthy and slow the spread.

And please remember that Governor Baker’s face covering order went into effect today. This requirement is as much about education as it is about enforcement. While the Melrose Police and the Melrose Health Department do have the authority to enforce the order, the focus is on explaining the order and asking folks to comply. I want to thank the vast majority of Melrose residents that are complying with the order and protecting themselves, friends and neighbors, and workers.

Speaking of the Board of Health, I am proud to announce that the Board of Health has a new member, Carol Ann Licitra. Carol Ann joins current Board members Dr. Frank Brinchiero and registered nurse Maurine Garipay. She is a licensed mental health counselor whose skills and experience will be a great addition to the Board. The City Council unanimously approved her appointment Monday, and she is attending her first meeting tonight.

Finally, today is National Nurses Day. This year it is especially important to recognize these front-line medical professionals who are providing compassionate care and advice to those in need. From the emergency room to the ICU to public health departments to home care services and in our classrooms, nurses are doing critically important work every day. Imagine where we would be without them.

Seeing the work they are doing every day makes me more confident than ever that together, we will get through this.
