This is Mayor Paul Brodeur

Happy Friday everybody. It’s been another crazy week, and I like you, I am looking forward to the weekend. As you all know, Friday is when we Clap Because We Care. Tonight I want to give a special shout-out to the volunteers and City Hall workers who made the mask distribution such a success. It started with Ruth Clay, our Health Director, getting over 60,000 masks. Chris Wilcock, our City Assessor, then organized the data for a citywide giveaway, including creation over almost 100 delivery routes. Kathy Pigott-Brodeur led the effort to organize material assembly and delivery. Our DPW, the Council on Aging, the Rec Department, the Parks Department, our Veterans office, and other city departments all assisted with an amazing end result. Along with our volunteers all deserve recognition and thanks. Bravo for a job well done.

Just a few reminders. The City Yard will be open tomorrow from 8 – 3 for leaf and recycling drop-off. All physical distancing rules apply, and please don’t forget your face covering. Unfortunately, the vendor who supports our paper shredding event at the City Yard has cancelled, so we will not be able to offer that event tomorrow.

Finally, I failed to mention earlier in the week that May 12 marked the bicentennial of the birth of Florence Nightingale- the founder of modern nursing. Given all that nursing are doing to support us during the pandemic, it is especially important to recognize this important historical event. Thank you to her and all her followed her!

And thank you again for everything you are doing to keep the community safe, and have a great weekend. Remember that together we will get through this.
