This is Mayor Paul Brodeur.

This week’s DPH public health report indicates Melrose has had 241 confirmed cases and 2113 tests. This is an increase of 2 confirmed positive tests and 182 additional tests. This is great news. Please note these numbers and rates reflect the number of persons tested, not the total tests performed, by city/town. One person may have multiple tests. You can get more information on the DPH COVID-19 dashboard or at the COVID-19 Information Hub on the city’s web page.

And speaking of testing, I am excited to announce that as a result of the hard work of Ruth Clay and the Melrose and Wakefield Boards of Health, the city will be offering drive-through testing on Friday, June 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Testing is open to all people who live or work in Melrose or Wakefield. The testing will be performed by PhsicianOne Urgent Care.

Patients do not need to be current patients of PhysicianOne Urgent Care and must complete registration before Wednesday June 17 at 8pm EST. Patients can register for testing by going to https://physicianoneurgentcare.com/dr.... Follow the prompts for testing registration, click on “find next available visit”, and provide the required information. Your health insurance will be billed for the service. More information is also available on the city website, and you can call the Health Department with any questions.

Testing is an essential tool for containing the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We know that people are asymptomatic or may have mild symptoms may make others very ill. That’s why it’s particularly important for everyone to get tested who thinks that they may have the virus as well as essential workers who are concerned about being exposed to the virus or exposing others.

Finally, a quick shout out to the Hoover Hawks, the Melrose DPW, and the Melrose PedBike Committee. They collaborated on the Hoover safe routes project, and their work has been recognized by the Mass Department of Transportation as a Bronze Level Safe Routes to School program. Kudos to all for making the trip to Hoover safer and healthier for all.

That can-do attitude and community spirit makes me more confident than ever that together, we will get through this.
