Good evening, this is your Mayor Paul Brodeur. Today we learned that there are 73 positive cases of COVID-19 here in Melrose. That is an increase of 7 from yesterday.

Preparations for the surge continue here in Melrose. We are working closely with Melrose Wakefield Hospital to ensure that we as a city are doing everything we can to support our frontline workers. Remember, social distancing flattens the curve and helps preserve medical resources, so keep the good work.

Additionally, I am pleased to share with you that Melrose Helps has initiated its first round of volunteer calls to senior residents. Please continue to sign up to volunteer or donate to the Emergency Fund by visiting Melrose helps dot com. And if you need help, call 781-979-4479 or send an email to melrosehelps@cityofmelrose.org.

And I need to say a special thanks to three groups:  all the volunteers who made Unicorn Day a success. It was a real shot in the arms for kids of all ages!

Next, Brad Hutchinson Real Estate for lending out their van so we could get much-needed supplies for the Pantry of Hope Food Pantry from the Greater Boston Food Bank. Pantry of Hope is still serving those in need by appointment. You can reach then at 781-665-4470

And finally, to the Melrose Police for their outstanding work in apprehending a dangerous suspect earlier today. The entire community is grateful for your professionalism and commitment to our residents. And thanks as well to the departments for assisting in the response.

Tomorrow Congresswoman Katherine Clark, State Representative Lipper Garabedian and I will be appearing together on MMTV to discuss the state and federal response to the pandemic. I hope you can watch.

Despite the stormy weather, it was a good day in Melrose.  Good night, and remember, together we will get through this.
