Statement from Mayor Brodeur on Concerning Incidents Involving City Employees

Mayor Brodeur's Head Shot

It was recently brought to my attention that a video was filmed by an organization visiting Melrose municipal areas in which City of Melrose employees allegedly made homophobic and other inappropriate comments to members of the public. Although the organization that filmed the incidents has not provided us with the video, we have not waited to begin our investigations and to take appropriate steps towards correcting this situation.

At this time, one of the individuals involved no longer works for the City of Melrose, and another individual has been put on administrative leave, pending the results of the investigation.

I want every member of the Melrose community to know that my administration is deeply troubled by these allegations and that we are taking them very seriously. We will not tolerate bigoted language or behavior. As the investigation unfolds, we will continue to update the community on our efforts to bring accountability and assurance to the public that City of Melrose employees are meeting those standards.
