Scrap Metal Collection Event at City Yard This Saturday

The Department of Public Works is hosting a Scrap Metal Collection event this Saturday, June 10, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Melrose City Yard at 72 Tremont Street.

During the event, residents are invited to recycle metal items that are free of liquids. Many items will be accepted free of charge, while some are subject to fees, payable by check or cash only:

  • Textiles, dried latex paint, books, eyeglasses, mercury items, and yard waste will be accepted free of charge.
  • Items like electronics, mattresses, tires, and light bulbs, will be accepted for a corresponding fee.
  • Propane tanks and fire extinguishers will be accepted during the event but will be handled and charged separately based on the following schedule of fees.

In addition, rain barrels purchased through the Great Rain Barrel Purchase Program are also to be picked up at the City Yard on this date between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. ONLY. This collection is for residents who have placed an order already – no same-day purchases are available on 6/10. The deadline to purchase a barrel through this program has passed and was on May 24.

Please call the Department of Public Works ahead of the event with any questions at (781) 665-0142 or email recycle@cityofmelrose.org.
