Remembering Those We Lost: The 80th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor

Graphic of soliders saluting in honor of the 80th commemoration of Pearl Harbor

Eighty years ago today, the Japanese Navy attacked the United States Navy stationed on Pearl Harbor and other areas of Hawaii, sinking 18 Naval ships, destroying 178 aircrafts, and taking the lives of 2,403 service members and civilians while injuring 1,178 more. This attack on American soil led to World War II and changed the world as Americans knew it forever.

In honor of the 80th anniversary of Pearl Harbor, the City of Melrose gives thanks and salutes the service members who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor and the survivors of that unthinkable day, and we extend our deepest sympathies to the surviving family members of all those who perished throughout the war that followed.
