Annual Summer Stroll Tonight, Friday, July 28
The city advises that MBTA bus routes will be altered, and alcoholic beverages purchased off-premises are prohibited.
The Melrose Chamber of Commerce, with support from the City of Melrose, will host the Tenth Annual Summer Stroll tonight in downtown Melrose. This free event runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

To create a spacious pedestrian walkway, Main Street between Upham and Grove Streets and part of Essex Street will be closed to vehicles. Event goers will enjoy shopping, browsing, eating and live music performed by local musicians in several locations. Restaurants will sell and serve food and beverages on the sidewalk, while local merchants will offer specials, demos and sales at their businesses.

Complete event details can be found on the Melrose Chamber of Commerce website, www.melrosechamber.org

National Night Out, August 1
Melrose Police Department invites the community to their annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 1, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cabbage Patch field at Melrose High School. The National Night Out is a family-friendly event that enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.

We look forward to welcoming back the community for our annual neighborhood event,” said Police Chief Kevin Faller. “National Night Out provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.”

Community viewing of Come From Away with Kevin Tuerff, August 31
MelroseKind will host a community viewing of the hit musical Come From Away with keynote speaker Kevin Tuerff on August 31 at 6 p.m. in the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School auditorium.

Come From Away tells the story of 38 planes – carrying 7,000 passengers – that were forced to land in Gander, Newfoundland, Canada when US airspace was shut down on 9/11. Kevin Tuerff was a passenger on one of the planes and was overcome with the response of the Ganderites. Tuerff’s non-profit, Pay It Forward 9.11, encourages others to perform eleven acts of kindness from September 1 through September 11.

“We are honored to have Kevin speak at our community viewing of Come From Away,” said Maribeth Darwin, co-founder of MelroseKind. “Not only is the musical fabulously entertaining, but Kevin’s story aligns so well with the mission of MelroseKind to lead with kindness and empathy.”

Tickets are available for a suggested donation of ten dollars, but the community viewing is open to all and tickets will be provided to those who are unable to donate. Read more about the community viewing at tinyurl.com/melrosekindevent. For questions, please contact to maribeth@melrosekind.com.
