Roadwork and Detours

No major road closures are expected this week, but there may be temporary closures or detours due to ongoing work on several projects.

  • National Grid will continue its electrical upgrade project with their contractor, Asplundh, focusing on areas around Lebanon Street and Upham Street, as well as Washington Street. The only expected road closures are brief ones while workers unload utility poles from flat beds.
  • Eversource will continue its Mystic to Golden Hills electrical reliability project with their contractor, Bond Brothers. Work areas will be different each day, but in general they are working on Main Street near Upham Street, on Howard Street near Carlida, on Main Street near Potomac, and on Green Street near Linden Ave. The Main Street work may affect access from the parking lot behind City Hall via the exit between City Hall and the fire station. Work during the week of February 10th is anticipated to include two areas of 24-7 roadway impacts – one on Howard Street near Carlida and the other on Main Street near Potomac. The overnight work is anticipated to take place on both Wednesday, February 12th and Thursday, February 13th at each of these locations. Detours may be in effect as deemed appropriate by the Melrose Police Department to mitigate safety concerns.
  • National Grid’s gas division is continuing to replace gas mains and services on Sherman Road and in the neighborhood of Sycamore, Burnett, and Bow. This work may involve restricting access to those roads.
  • Private development utility work continues at 524-530 Main Street, 419-429 Main Street, and 8 Greenleaf Place. We do not anticipate any major road closures next week associated with these projects, although work in the Dill’s Court parking lot, in the area immediately behind CVS, may result in some parking restrictions.
