MHS Student Calls on Residents to Participate in Community Art Project: One Day Melrose

Norah stands in a field of grain.

A Melrose High School student is asking the Melrose community to create artwork tomorrow, October 20, for her community art project called One Day Melrose.

According to the student, Norah Mahoney, the artwork, which should include Melrose or is inspired by Melrose, will be used to “create an exhibit of our town, boiled down to what we can do in a single day. It’s Melrose coming together as a community to express our art.”

Norah emphasizes that the artwork should be created tomorrow, October 20, only and then submitted to the One Day Melrose website, https://onedaymelrose.com/. Works can only be uploaded between October 20 through October 23.

Norah will collect the artwork and put it together into a digital portfolio, featuring everyone’s creative works. All submissions will then be added to the One Day Melrose website and displayed for the remainder of the year until next year's One Day Melrose!

The artwork will also be featured in a gallery at Follow Your Art Community Studios in the coming weeks beginning on a date not yet announced. This physical gallery is made possible by Hunt’s Photo and Video and Mass Cultural Council.

Community members who have questions can email Norah at norahmahoney67@gmail.com. For more information, visit the One Day Melrose website, https://onedaymelrose.com/.

One Day Melrose Inspiration

One Day Melrose was inspired by a nationwide project from the 1980s that asked high school students from across America to take photos on the same day and mail them in. Photos were then curated and organized into a print magazine that was distributed across the country. Through her project, Norah hopes of bringing together the Melrose community through our art.
