MHS Permanent Scholarship Fund Announces Return of Citywide Luminary Event, Names Molly’s Bookstore as Location to Purchase Kits

In the past three years alone, the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund has awarded a total of $1,032,000 in scholarship money to nearly 700 graduating MHS seniors.
MHS Permanent Scholarship Fund Announces Return of Citywide Luminary Event, Names Molly’s Bookstore as Location to Purchase Kits

The Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund has announced it will bring back its citywide Luminary Event that calls on the Melrose community to light up their walkways and driveways using luminary kits and show their support for Melrose High School (MHS) graduating seniors on Sunday, April 2, at 7 p.m.

“The purpose of the event is to show the class of 2023 how bright their future is in the eyes of the Melrose community,” said Executive Administrator of the Fund Ann Guanci who is spearheading this community-wide Luminary Event.

How to Participate

To participate in the Luminary Event, community members can purchase a $25 luminary kit in-person at Molly's Book Store or online through the MHS Permanent Scholarship Fund, a Melrose-based nonprofit organization that exists to raise funds and give them back in the form of scholarship awards to current MHS School seniors.

Each luminary kit creates 10 luminarias (paper lanterns). All proceeds go directly towards providing scholarships for 2023 graduating seniors.

Where & When to Purchase a Luminary Kit

  • Molly’s Bookstore, located at 667-669 Main Street in Melrose.
    • Purchases can be made in person at Molly’s Bookstore through the date of the event, Sunday, April 2 at 7 p.m.
  • The Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund’s Eventbrite page or the Fund’s website.
    • The deadline for online purchases is Monday, March 27.

Luminary Kit Drive-Thru Event: March 28

Those who purchase their luminary kits online will pick them up during a drive-thru pick-up event in the parking lot of Melrose High School on Tuesday, March 28, from 6—7 p.m.

About the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund
The Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund was developed by the Melrose High School PTO in 1960 and its first scholarship was awarded in June of 1961. Since its inception, the organization's mission has been to raise and administer the funds required to award scholarships to students graduating from Melrose High School. While they work with the school to support the students, the MHS Permanent Scholarship Fund is not directly associated with Melrose High School.
