MelroseKind Seeks to Help Massachusetts Women and Girls Experiencing Period Poverty

Sanitary Pads

One in five American girls have either left school early or missed school entirely because they did not have access to period products. Women risk losing their jobs if they can’t work reliably during their period.

To help Massachusetts women and girls experiencing “Period Poverty”, local non-profit MelroseKind has announced it will be collecting sanitary pads for the month of October.

Community members can help alleviate Period Poverty when they drop off donations on one of MelroseKind’s “Kindness Porches”.

From there, MelroseKind will deliver the donated items to Dignity Matters, a nonprofit organization that collects, purchases, and distributes menstrual care products, underwear, and bras to women and girls who are experiencing homelessness and/or living in poverty.

Community members are encouraged to drop off donations on any of MelroseKind’s Kindness Porches through the end of October (24 hours/day!):

In addition to the above Kindness Porches, for this month only, residents can drop donations off at the home of Melrose’s Dignity Matters Ambassador, Lindsey Chisholm, located at 132 East Foster Street (please drop off the items in the bin at this location).

Regarding the drive, MelroseKind Founder Maribeth Darwin said, “These everyday necessities are essential for girls and women to stay healthy and confident, attend school and work, and live with basic dignity.”
