Melrose School Supply Collection at Edward Jones Through August 21

school-suppliesFor the tenth year in a row, City Councilor Chris Cinella of Edward Jones Investments, 502 Main Street, is collecting school supplies to give to children who need them. All the school supplies donated will be given to families who require the extra help or are being served by the Red Cross and the Melrose Emergency Fund. Donations should be brought to the Edward Jones office anytime between now and August 21.

According to a 2020 Back to School Survey published by Deloitte Consulting, the average American family will spend $102 on school supplies this year. This figure does not include other costs such as new technology to facilitate remote learning, or extracurricular supplies like sporting equipment or art supplies.

All types of school supplies are welcome, particularly pencils, pens, crayons, markers, notebooks, paper, binders, folders, backpacks, lunchboxes, child-safe scissors, glue sticks, staplers, calculators, calculators, dry erase boards, erasers, construction paper. This year in particular, gift cards to stores which offer school supplies are especially welcome.

“I’m glad that Chris is keeping up this Melrose tradition,” said Mayor Paul Brodeur. “Making sure that all of our kids have the supplies they need to succeed in school will be critical as we embark on an unprecedented and dynamic school year.”

The Edward Jones office is located at 502 Main Street and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
