Melrose School Nurses to Be Honored at Unveiling of USPS “Thank You!” Stamp

Stamp Text

As part of the US Postal System’s celebration of the National First Day of Issue for the USPS “Thank you!” stamp, local and regional USPS officials will gather in Melrose on Monday, September 20, 2021 to dedicate the new stamp to Melrose’s school nurses. In a brief outdoor ceremony that will take place at 3:30 pm on the grounds of Melrose High School, USPS officials will make a short presentation about the stamp and then members of the Melrose School Nurses will unveil the stamp. Mayor Brodeur and other City officials will be in attendance.

The District Manager for the Massachusetts/Rhode Island US Postal District has asked local postmasters and managers to recognize organizations or individuals in their communities that deserve a “Thank You!” for their work during the pandemic.  Melrose’s school nurses were chosen for this recognition for their dedication to the health and wellbeing of the children in their care, and to acknowledge their tireless efforts to assist with conducting contact tracing and COVID-19 vaccination clinics during the pandemic.

“School nurses are some of the most unsung heroes in any community, even outside of responding to a global health crisis,” said Mayor Paul Brodeur. “These individuals work every day to keep our children safe and healthy, and have gone above and beyond that charge throughout the pandemic. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to honor them in this way.”

Following the ceremony, which is open to the public, a special framed stamp art piece will be presented to the honorees.
