Melrose Residents 65+ Invited to Mayor’s Annual Senior Resource Fair October 24

Mayor Paul Brodeur’s annual Senior Resource Fair centered around providing Melrose residents age 65+ with access to senior discounts, free flu vaccines, the opportunity to sign up to receive support from local agencies, and more, will be held on Tuesday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Memorial Hall, located at 590 Main Street.

During the fair, the Melrose Health and Human Services (HHS) Department will offer a free on-site flu clinic, which community members may pre-register for by calling the Melrose Council on Aging at 781-665-4304; by stopping by the HHS Department, or via the City of Melrose webpage at https://home.color.com/vaccine/register/melrose. Residents who do not pre-register should give themselves extra time to register when they arrive at the fair and should bring their insurance card.

City of Melrose departments will also offer information about the City’s 65+ Property Tax Exemption; 65+ Water and Sewer discount; 65+ Solid Waste discount; Veterans’ benefits; voting information; energy resources; fuel assistance, and more. 

Local agencies, including ABCD Energy Services, which will offer information on fuel assistance, and National Grid, which will be able to assist with discount applications and explain how to read your current bill.

Attendees should bring a photo ID, recent tax bill, 2022 tax return, social security statement, electric bill, and DD214, if applicable.

“I’m proud of the City’s holistic approach to supporting the health, social, and financial needs of our community’s older adults,” said Mayor Brodeur. “The fair is an excellent opportunity for these residents to sign up for free or discounted programs, and gain insight into all the services available to them. We want to ensure everyone can access all the resources and programs that are there for them and are intended to keep our community happy and healthy.”  

“The Council on Aging is excited to assist in organizing the Mayor’s Senior Resource Fair,” said Erica Brown, Executive Director of the Melrose Council on Aging. “We field questions daily on what services and discounts are available to older adults in Melrose. This fair is the most convenient way for residents to take advantage of all services the City of Melrose has to offer, in one accessible location.”

The following departments and local agencies will be present at the fair: ABCD Energy Services; Assessors; City Clerk/Elections; Council on Aging; Fire; Police; Health and Human Services; Information Technology; Library, Mayor’s office: National Grid; Office of Planning and Community Development; Sustainability; Veterans Services; Water and Sewer Department; Mystic Valley Elder Services; Melrose Project Bread; and Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, among others.
