Melrose Reopens Parks and Playgrounds

As the state of Massachusetts moves into Phase II of Governor Baker’s reopening plan, the City of Melrose will reopen the skate park and all city playgrounds on June 10. Signs will be posted at each park with guidance for users, and the skate park will be limited to 10 users at a time. Pine Banks is also open for non-organized use.

The dog park will remain closed for the time being while appropriate guidelines are being developed. The state guidelines call for both dogs and people to stay six feet apart, and the Melrose dog park is too small to accommodate that. The dog parks at Pine Banks are open.

The tennis courts at Tremont Street and Crystal Street have already been reopened. Due to the continued need for social distancing, the number of playable tennis courts has been limited. Courts can be reserved at www.PlayLocal.com. Players can use the courts with no reservation if they are available, but they must leave if someone arrives who does have a reservation.

The Mount Hood Golf Course was reopened on May 10. Reservations are required. For more information, see the Parks Department website or call the pro shop at 781-665-6656

Although the parks are open for individual use, no permits will be issued for user groups until after June 15. We look forward to welcoming back our youth and adult user groups and are reaching out to them with details about how and when they can get back on the fields.
