Melrose City Hall Clock Tower Glows Green for Mental Health Awareness Month

Melrose City Hall’s clock tower will glow green for the entire month of May to raise awareness of National Mental Health Awareness Month.

Since 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed across the nation to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and promote the idea that it is something everyone should care about. Each year, organizations that promote mental health wellness fight to end stigma, provide support, educate the public, and advocate for policies that support people with mental illness and their families.

The Melrose Health and Human Services Department (HHS), in partnership with the Mayor’s Office and Department of Public Works, is hoping that the clock tower’s green hue will increase awareness of mental health issues and decrease the stigma around mental health.

During the month of May, the HHS Department will also provide various resources and information for people to improve their mental health and practice self-care through a social media campaign. Residents can find these resources on the department’s Facebook account and in the HHS office, located on the ground level of City Hall at 562 Main Street. The City’s Recreation Department will also be conducting mindfulness in the month of May.
