MELROSE, MA— On Monday, June 7, Margot Fleischman joined Mayor Paul Brodeur’s office as the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Communications for the City of Melrose. Currently chair and long-serving member of the Bedford Select Board as well as the President of the Board of Directors of Communities for Restorative Justice, Fleischman brings her passion for collaboration and community engagement to City Hall.

“I am very excited to be a part of such a vibrant, active community as Melrose,” says Fleischman. “Melrose has a reputation for being a welcoming, open place. I look forward to contributing to all the wonderful things that are already happening here and to advancing the projects that are important to the community.”

Fleischman, a graduate of Harvard University, began her career in public service in 2004 in Bedford where for the past 17 years, she has served on various boards and committees, engaging with a broad range of issues including planning, transportation, affordable housing, sustainability, and community response to conflict.

Her newly-formed position is responsible for assisting Mayor Brodeur in setting strategic priorities, including developing and implementing arts, cultural and other economic development initiatives. Fleischman’s role will also be to evaluate progress of city services by incorporating data analytics and best practices.

“Margot is a passionate and seasoned public servant,” said Mayor Brodeur. “I’m thrilled to have someone with her level of experience and knowledge of municipal government to drive my administration’s initiatives as Melrose emerges from the pandemic.”

“It’s an exciting time to be a municipal employee, especially in Melrose,” said Mayor Brodeur. “I’m glad to welcome Margot and can’t wait to see the ways our City reaps the benefits of her talents.”
