Home for the Holidays Returns This Weekend!

Brought to you by the Melrose Chamber of Commerce with support from the City of Melrose, this weekend’s Home for the Holidays festivities begin on Friday evening with live music and the lighting of the tree at Melrose City Hall followed by the traditional stroll down Main Street to the YMCA to await the arrival of Santa on the fire truck.

It is recommended that community members walk to the events on Friday as Main Street will be closed from Upham Street to Grove Street starting at 5 p.m.

“The Melrose Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome back Home for the Holidays, a citywide holiday open house that ushers in the holiday season in our community over two days,” said Stephanie Nelson, Executive Director of the Chamber.

The complete schedule is available on the Chamber of Commerce website, but here are a few highlights:

Friday Evening Festivities

5:45 pm: Join us on the lawn of City Hall for holiday singing with a local group!

6:00 – 6:15 pm: Cheer and sing as we light the City Hall Christmas Tree! Then stroll down towards the YMCA to await Santa’s arrival.

Around 6:30 pm: Led by Melrose High School Drummers, Santa Claus will arrive in downtown Melrose atop a Fire Engine!

6:00 - 8:00 pm: Temple Beth Shalom is once again offering delicious latkes (potato pancakes), sufganiyot (donuts), and beverages outside of the Temple (21 East Foster Street).

Once the trees along Main Street are lit, SANTA will be at the Knights of Columbus for pictures, hot cocoa, holiday music, and more!

Saturday Fun

All day on Saturday, the city will be full of fairs, performances, sales, specials, The Nutcracker, and all sorts of fun that will last throughout the weekend.

Special holiday trolleys will run from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, carrying shoppers throughout the shopping districts, for free. The trolleys are made possible by our generous business sponsors below.

Be sure to visit Cedar Park for 'reindeer' rides, cookie decorating, a hot cocoa bar, and a visit from Santa between 11 am - 12 pm! *

  • Free trolleys will run from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm and originate at Cedar Park with stops throughout Melrose. Hop on and off!
  • The last trolleys out of Cedar Park will be at 1:40 pm as the trolleys stop running altogether at 2:00 pm sharp so please plan your travels accordingly.
  • For the safety of all passengers, we ask that you leave strollers at home or at Cedar Park.

*Activities may be subject to change.
