According to the PEW Research Center, “95% of teens now report they have a smartphone or access to one. These mobile connections are in turn fueling more-persistent online activities: 45% of teens now say they are online on a near-constant basis.”
HHS Department Offers Parents, Caregivers Webinar on Risks Associated with Online Behavior & Social Media

In response to a call for training from Melrose parents and caregivers, the Melrose Health & Human Services Department and Massachusetts non-profit Operation250 will co-host a free online training “Navigating the Virtual World” geared towards supporting parents on Thursday, May 4, at 7 p.m. via Zoom. The training will include an overview of online risk-taking, preventative skills building, and caregiver/youth conversation skills.

The webinar’s key topics will include:

  • Starting the conversation about social media with youth.
  • Youth online risk-taking and the psychological effect of “the internet” on their decisions.
  • Risk associations and unsafe behaviors online.
  • The reality of risks and where they exist.
  • Preventative skills building.
