HHS Department Announces Community Conversation on the Impact of Alcohol Use

The data driving the City’s Alcohol Awareness Month Programming includes results from the City’s 2021 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, where 25% of Melrose High School students reported using alcohol in the last 30 days.

In observation of Alcohol Awareness Month, the City of Melrose Health and Human Services (HHS) Department will host a community conversation about the impact of alcohol use on Saturday, April 1, from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the Milano Center, located at 201 W. Foster Street. The event is free and open to the public.

The conversation—"The Effects of Alcohol on Public Health and Safety”—is intended to provide residents with education on alcohol use and will serve as an opportunity for residents to share their ideas with HHS staff as they prepare to bring prevention strategies to the City of Melrose.

To register for the conversation, community members can visit https://www.cityofmelrose.org/recreation-department and click “register here” in the left-hand menu. The event is located under the ‘Adult Programs’ section of the Recreation Department’s digital catalog. Walk-ins are also welcome.

The program will start at 9 a.m. with a continental breakfast and networking, followed by panelist presentations and group discussions. The HHS Department will also provide legislative updates from the Office of Massachusetts State Senator Jason Lewis

Questions regarding the program can be emailed to Public Health Specialist, Emily Hatchouel at ehatchouel@cityofmelrose.com. For questions about registering online through the Recreation Department’s digital catalog, please contact recreation@cityofmelrose.org or call (781) 979-4179.
