Clean Up & Clean Out: Swap Day & Community Cleanup Saturday, October 2nd

Zero Waste Melrose and Keep Melrose Beautiful join forces for a day of green events.
Melrose Swap Day Information

The leaves may be starting to turn, but Melrose is keeping things green with the return of Zero Waste Melrose’s Swap Day and a Keep Melrose Beautiful Community-wide Cleanup on Saturday, October 2.

From 8 AM – 12 PM, in the parking lot behind City Hall, Zero Waste Melrose will host the first Swap Day since 2019, a community reuse event held twice a year (spring and fall) that provides an opportunity to save reusable items from being discarded and give them a new life and a new home.

Zero Waste Melrose invites the community to drop off gently used items such as clothes, small furniture, sports equipment, and small electronics and/or browse the collection for free items. Everything is free, and any items not picked up by the end of the day will be donated. Please note that items can only be dropped off until 11 AM.

Meanwhile, Keep Melrose Beautiful is organizing a community-wide fall cleanup the same day from 9 AM – 12 PM in various spaces across the City. Melrose will be joining communities across the state for the Great Massachusetts Cleanup. Individuals, partners, or small groups may sign up for a particular location.

Keep Melrose Beautiful, a local chapter of Keep Massachusetts Beautiful, organizes two cleanups a year to keep our community “clean, green, & litter free.” This year’s spring cleanup, which fell during Earth Week, yielded 100 bags of waste and 40 bags of recyclables (amounting to over a ton of trash) collected by approximately 500 volunteers.
