In collaboration with local non-profit Bread of Life, Mayor Paul Brodeur’s office will be collecting tube socks for individuals experiencing homelessness and local families without access to a washer and dryer.

From May 3 to May 31, community members can drop off new tube socks for both women and men at Mayor Brodeur’s office, located on the second floor of City Hall at 562 Main Street in Melrose.

“We collect socks for people who are experiencing homeless and are constantly on their feet and yet may not have access to a washer and dryer,” said Gabriella Snyder Stelmack, Executive Director of Bread of Life in Malden. “One of the most important things for a person who is constantly on their feet is to keep their feet clean and dry. Any number of socks that you can donate will help improve the quality of life year-round.”

Community members are encouraged to donate new socks only during City Hall’s business hours: Monday - Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

“I’m thrilled to join the Bread of Life’s mission to address issues of hunger, poverty, and need,” said Mayor Brodeur. “In Melrose, giving back is a core part of who we are as a community – from donating medical supplies for Ukrainians, to socks for our neighbors in need – I am humbled by every donation, and confident that our community will answer this call.”
