60 Older Adults and Adults with Disabilities in Melrose Need Snow Removal Support this Snow Season

Snow Angel

More than 60 older adults and adults with disabilities in Melrose are in need of snow removal support this snow season.

To support these community members, the Melrose Council on Aging is seeking 40 high school students and adults to become members of its Snow Angels program, which pairs volunteers with older adults and adults with disabilities in need of full assistance in shoveling their driveways and walkways for the duration of the winter season.

The Snow Angel program is designed to ensure community members, specifically older adults and adults with disabilities, can safely leave their homes during the snowy months to get groceries, receive care, and avoid social isolation. Snow Angels are paired with a nearby neighbor and shovel their driveway and/or walkways after a snowstorm. Volunteers are matched to the greatest extent possible with neighbors who live nearby.

To volunteer, or if you know of an adult who would benefit from this program, please contact Rachael Cordella at the Melrose Council on Aging at (781) 665-4304.

Please note, a CORI check is required for participation if you are 18 years of age or older. This process requires an in-person original CORI form and a copy of the volunteer's ID.
