The City’s electricity program, called Melrose Community Power or MCP for short, is celebrating a successful past year, meeting two large milestones.

Information about the program, along with forms to sign up for the 100% renewable energy product, can be found on the program website MCP.CityofMelrose.org.

2021 Highlights

During Earth Week last year, the Mayor set a goal of getting 100 Melrosians to sign up for the program’s 100% renewable electricity option. The goal was met and exceeded thanks to the efforts of Melrose Energy Commission volunteers. There are now 240 residents and businesses in Melrose receiving 100% renewable electricity.

“The City is thankful for our residents who join us in our commitment to addressing the climate crisis,” said Mayor Brodeur. “Together, we are reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions in our electricity supply, and we are doing it in an effective and efficient way. The City of Melrose will continue the broad-based education and outreach effort to reach residents and businesses who are looking for a vetted option to reduce their impact on climate change and support the development of renewable electricity sources in New England. “

This past November, the program announced new rates that will continue for the next three years. Most MCP participants are enrolled in Melrose Local Green, the standard product which increased the amount of additional renewable energy from 5% to 10% starting in November.

About Melrose Community Power

  • Melrose Community Power is a carefully designed program offered by the City of Melrose to provide more electricity supply options and more renewable energy to residents and businesses.
  • The program offers a 100% renewable energy product: no greenwashing, no gimmicks; the energy comes from generators located in New England, is designated MA Class I (the cleanest standard) and your participation decreases carbon pollution while moving us away from burning fossil fuels, such as natural gas, to generate our electricity.
  • MCP offers three electricity choices with different amounts of renewable energy, including a 100% option (Melrose Local Green 100%) and an option with no additional renewable energy (Melrose Basic). Participants can change products at any time without penalty on the program website MCP.CityofMelrose.org.
