Pride Venue Change: Melrose Pride Celebration to Take Place Indoors at Melrose Highlands Congregational Church

Considering tomorrow’s weather forecast, the Melrose Human Rights Commission (MHRC) and Office of Mayor Brodeur have decided to move tomorrow’s Pride Celebration indoors to the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church. The event will still begin at 5 p.m.

The decision to move the event, which usually takes place at the Beebe Estate, was based on the damp conditions of the Beebe Estate lawn as well as the chance of rain, lighting, and thunder tomorrow afternoon and evening, as reported by the National Weather Service.

All are invited to join the MHRC, Mayor Paul Brodeur, local speakers, youth artists, and elected officials at the Melrose Highland Congregational Church tomorrow, June 9, at 5 p.m. to celebrate Melrose Pride with music from Girl Skull and MC Samantha Em. This is a catered, family-friendly event featuring face painting, sand art activities, and more.

The Melrose Highlands Congregational Church is located at 355 Franklin Street and is an open and affirming church. There is a small parking lot across Franklin St. from the church that guests can use and a wheelchair-accessible ramp on the West Highland Avenue entrance of the church (between Ashland Street and Chipman Avenue).

In this time of unprecedented attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community and their Human Rights in the United States and worldwide, the MHRC is proud to be a part of the Melrose Pride events. The mission of the MRHC’s 2023 Pride Events is to celebrate the voices and perspectives of the LBGTQ+ community in Melrose, raise awareness of barriers faced by the LGBTQ+ community, and bring the people of Melrose together to promote inclusivity, education, and advocacy for equal rights for all people under the law.
