The King lives on! “All Shook Up,” Polymnia Choral Society’s 2018 Spring Pops Concert, will celebrate the music of Elvis Presley on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Memorial Hall, 590 Main Street in Melrose, at 7:30 p.m.

The song review will feature the top hits of Elvis Presley's repertoire from the 1950s, through the ’60s, and into the early ’70s. Elvis as The King of Rock is an icon who lives on in the minds of fans who have followed him for his entire career, joined by newer fans in the 21stcentury. His infectious style and charisma made him into a legend that has transcended his short life. Rolling Stonesaid of Elvis, “Four decades after his death, Presley’s image and influence remain undiminished. While certainly other artists preceded him to the altar of rock & roll, he is indisputably The King.”

“All Shook Up” spans much of Elvis’ career, from “Heartbreak Hotel,”which was one of his first recordings for RCA,music from his later concerts, and music from his early days singing Gospel in the Pentecostal church. Featured as a soloist will be Wakefield resident Steven Francis, singing “American Trilogy,” a medley arranged by Mickey Newbury and used as a showstopper in Elvis’ concert routines.

Included on the program are two featured soloists, this year’s winners of Polymnia's Spotlight on High School Talent. Polymnia’s cultural outreach program of encouragement for young musicians has discovered Lauren Abramson, who will sing “Someone to Watch Over Me” by George and Ira Gershwin, and Jillian Casa who will perform “Love Song” by Sara Bareilles.

This production is anticipated to be an exciting, showy concert in honor of The King and appealing to all ages; entire families will enjoy being “all shook up” together. The festive atmosphere, with decorations and pops-style table seating, will leave plenty of room for the audience to dance and the audience will be encouraged to sing along.

Drinks and snacks will be available and baskets of prizes will be raffled.
