Good Evening, Melrose!

Are you curious about the City’s budget process? You’re not alone, which is why we’re pleased to share this week’s episode of The Melrose Minute features Assistant City Auditor Kerri Golden explaining the FY25 budget process with Mayor Jen. Watch the episode (and more), by visiting www.cityofmelrose.org/melrose-minute.

Melrose in the News

On Super Tuesday, NBC10 Boston interviewed Mayor Jen, City Clerk Kristin Foote, Melrose election workers and community members at the polls. Watch the segment by clicking here (Melrose’s moment is at the halfway mark).

Big News, BIGGER Thanks

This week, we’re giving a BIG THANK YOU to two Melrose residents who, after serving for many years, are stepping down from one of our Boards and Commissions that provide essential support to City programs, activities, and our community.

  • John Capuano is stepping down from his leadership role as Chair of the Melrose Council on Aging Board of Directors. We are grateful for his five years of dedicated service and his instrumental role in the transformation of our Milano Center into a modern-day facility to meet the diverse needs of Melrose’s older adults.
  • Rita Mercado is retiring from the Zoning Board of Appeals after 15 years of service including over 10 years as Chair. Rita led us through countless important reviews and decisions on requests for variances from the zoning regulations, special permits, and administrative appeals. We will miss her thorough, thoughtful, and organized approach to guiding the board.

It’s a Good Week for…

Meeting About Hosting/Planning/Organizing Iftar: The Melrose Human Rights Commission (MHRC) is hosting a meetup on Thursday, March 14, from 6-7 p.m. at City Hall for individuals and organizations interested in partnering to plan, organize, and execute a community-wide Iftar celebration. One member of the MHRC will be present to answer questions and share planning materials and insight. For full details, click here. (The commission’s PRIDE meetup at FYACS has been moved to Thursday, March 21).

Submitting Your Dog License Applications: As a reminder, all dogs over 6 months must be licensed by Friday, March 15 each year (per Mass General Laws and Melrose City Charter). Late dog license applications are subject to $15 late fees. To learn more, visit www.cityofmelrose.org/dogs

More Daylight: Daylight saving time will begin at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 10. It will mean losing an hour of sleep and moving the clocks around your house forward one hour, though your cell phone will likely automatically adjust.
