Last night, Mayor Jen and Interim Superintendent Macero sent a critical update to the Melrose Public Schools community regarding the FY 25 school budget. Noting the City’s Patriots’ Day Closures
On Monday, April 15, the following municipal buildings will be closed in observance of Patriots’ Day: City Hall, City Yard, Melrose Public Library, and the Milano Center. Curbside trash and recycling collection will not be collected on Monday, April 15, resulting in a one-day delay for the remainder of the week.

Exploring Melrose's Bond Program on The Melrose Minute
In Episode 10 of The Melrose Minute, Mayor Jen and Treasurer/Collector Kathryn Armata discuss the City's Bond Program, providing insights into its purpose (including financing essential infrastructure projects), mechanisms, and significance for Melrose residents. Spending School Vacation with Miniature Horses and Donkeys
Melrose residents can meet miniature horses and donkeys on Wednesday, April 17, and Thursday, April 18, between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the Cabbage Patch Field (in front of the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School). The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Melrose Recreation Department and non-profit Minis with a Mission. Resuming Curbside Collection of Yard Waste
The Department of Public Works resumed curbside collection of yard waste this week. The following collection will occur the week of May 6 through May 10. To follow the curbside collection schedule, visit www.cityofmelrose.org/2024curbsidecollection. The City Yard at 72 Tremont St. is also open on Saturdays for recycling and yard waste drop-offs between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Call the DPW for more information at 781-665-0142.
Welcoming the Greater Boston Labor Council to Melrose
For the first time, the Greater Boston Labor Council hosted its Annual Breakfast in Melrose on Thursday, April 11, at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building. Mayor Jen provided opening remarks, stressing the importance of collaboration between local government and labor organizations in striving for a more equitable society. Also in attendance were the Mayor of Malden Gary Christensen, Mayor of Medford Breanna Lungo-Koehn, and MA legislators, including Senator Jason Lewis and Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian.
