Melrose Emergency Fund Thanks Recent Donors

Donations to the Emergency Fund are especially welcome during the holiday season but are accepted throughout the year.
Melrose Emergency Fund Thanks Recent Donors

Over the past week, Melrose community members collectively donated nearly $3,000 to the Melrose Emergency Fund, which provided over $78,000 in financial aid to Melrose families in need last fiscal year but only received roughly $35,000 in donations between June 2022 and July 2023. Recent Donors to the Melrose Emergency Fund include Gregory & Erika Gonzalez; Aldo A. Agnoletti; Donald A. Bissex; Myron & Rose Dittner; Jennifer Bernazani-Ludlum; Paul Drago; Gerald & Kathleen Nolan; The Melrose Public Library; Lynda R. Morgenroth; Linda Fennell; and George Proakis and Lisa Loveland.

The Mayor’s Office and Council on Aging, which recently launched their 2023 Melrose Emergency Fund Holiday Campaign "50k by the Holiday"  to raise $50,000 by New Year's Day 2024, extend their warmest thanks to these most recent donors and encourage others to learn about the campaign by visiting https://www.cityofmelrose.org/50kbytheHoliday.

Established in 1996 by Mayor Lyons after 25 families were displaced by fires, the MEF accepts donations for the sole purpose of providing relief to Melrose families in emergency need, focusing on ensuring their basic needs including food, rent, and utilities are met. The fund depends entirely on donations from the public, and every penny goes directly toward aiding Melrose residents.

As the giving season nears, the Mayor's Office and Council on Aging ask the community to consider donating to the Melrose Emergency Fund and keep Melrose’s tradition of “neighbors helping neighbors” alive for many more years to come.

To donate, send a check to Melrose Emergency Fund, Mayor's Office, 562 Main St., Melrose, MA 02176, or bring it directly to the Mayor's Office on the second floor of City Hall. Checks should be made out to the City of Melrose, with "Melrose Emergency Fund" in the memo line. Contributions may also be made through the City of Melrose Online Bill Payments webpage, www.cityofmelrose.org/payments. For questions regarding the Emergency Fund, call (781) 979-4440.

There are no overhead costs because city staff administer the funds as part of their regular duties. All funds collected go directly to helping Melrose residents in need.

If you are in a financial emergency, please contact the Council on Aging at 781-665-4304 or visit https://www.cityofmelrose.org/emergencyfund to fill out an inquiry or complete an application. All applications are confidential.
