Household Hazardous Waste

The City’s annual Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event will be held at the Recycling Center on October 24, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

The event is CHECK ONLY. Checks should be made out to City of Melrose!

In addition, Melrose residents are welcome to attend HHW collection events throughout the year in 7 other nearby communities. Access to non-residents is often restricted to certain hours and may require advance registration, so it is advised that residents review this document closely and contact the host community prior to attending an out-of-town event.

Hazardous waste includes:

Please note: Latex Paint is not hazardous. To dispose of it, dry it by placing a commercial paint hardener or kitty litter (much less expensive) in the can. The trick to both methods is to stir the drying agent well at the beginning and leave the lid off the paint can and the stir stick in the paint. This should be done at least two days in advance, as the paint takes time to dry. Please leave the stick in the paint can so the Resident Service Representative at the Public Works Operations Facility can be certain that the paint is dried when it is dropped off Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM-3 PM, at 72 Tremont Street.
