Compost Bin & Rain Barrel Sale

The Department of Public Works typically sells and distributes rain barrels and compost bins once a year in the spring.

Compost bins are used to break down organic matter such as food scraps and yard waste. The bins help you reduce trash and also improve the health of your lawn and garden, save money on fertilizers and mulch, and preserve natural resources. Using fewer chemical fertilizers also helps protect the health of your family and pets.
 
The Earth Machine compost bin costs just $25 for Melrose residents, thanks to a grant from MassDEP.  Please bring Compost bin and cash or check (payable to "City of Melrose") to the DPW Residents Services Office. You may also purchase a compost bin online with credit/debit card by visiting https://epay.cityhallsystems.com/. If choosing to pay with card online, you must do so ahead of time and call 781-665-0142 to arrange for pickup. 

Rain barrels collect water that drains through your gutters and can be used to water your lawn and garden. Using rain barrels is an effective way to conserve water and save money on your water bill.

The City of Melrose DPW is pleased to announce the 2024 Spring Rain Barrel sale with the Great American Rain Barrel Company. Rain barrel sales are open until June 2nd at 12:00 midnight. Pickup will be on June 15, 2024 from 9 AM - 12 PM. If you are interested in purchasing a rain barrel, please visit the Great American Rain Barrel Company Community webpage and search for Melrose.
