About
The Melrose Department of Public Works Engineering Division provides engineering and support for the City’s infrastructure including roadways, sidewalks, traffic signals, street lights, drainage, water distribution, wastewater collection and conveyance, and public buildings, while also supporting DPW Operations and Facilities Divisions as needed and providing support to the general public. Engineering functions include procurement, development and oversight of capital plans and associated budgeting, oversight of design and construction projects, infrastructure reviews of proposed new development, and management of infrastructure Geographic Information Systems. The Engineering Division also houses records including roadway and utility plans, water and sewer service tie cards, and other historical documents. Public services include permitting and oversight of work within or impacting the City’s right-of-way and/or utilities connected to the City’s infrastructure, assistance with walk-in needs related to DPW functions (e.g., collecting billing discount forms, arranging metal goods pickups, etc.), and answering questions and concerns regarding the City’s construction projects.
