Electricity Aggregation
community-power-logo

Melrose Community Power (MCP) is the new name of the municipal electricity aggregation program that was first launched in January 2016 by the City of Melrose. With MCP, National Grid continues to deliver electricity and manage all electricity billing. The only change is the source and cost of electricity supply, which is chosen by the City of Melrose through competitive bidding.

On the Melrose Community Power website  residents and businesses can:

  • Learn more about how the program works;
  • Get current rate options and how they compare to National Grid’s Basic Service rates;
  • Easily enroll (opt-in) or unenroll (opt-out) in the three MCP Program offerings; and
  • See the benefits of supporting renewable energy resources

Please keep in mind that future savings cannot be guaranteed because Basic Service rates change every six months for residential and commercial customers and every three months for industrial customers. Electricity customers who become eligible for the program will receive an opt-out letter package detailing the program and ways to leave the program (opt out); those who choose not to opt out will be automatically enrolled. Electricity customers who are currently enrolled with a third-party supplier will not receive the opt-out letter and will not be automatically enrolled. These customers can voluntarily join the program but may be subject to penalties or early termination fees from the third-party supplier if they switch to the electricity aggregation program during the term of their contract.
