Melrose Birth-to-Five

What is Melrose Birth to Five?

The concept of Melrose Birth to Five began in the fall of 2012 when the City of Melrose conducted a series of focus groups with residents of varying demographics titled the Our City Series.

One of the action items created from the Our City report was to form an Early Childhood Advisory Committee. The purpose of this new advisory committee was to help the City better support families with young children (birth through age 5) by connecting them with other parents and community resources.

The concept grew from the success of the Melrose Kids Club, averaging over 125 people per performance, and the feedback received during the Our City series.

Year one goals of the Mayor’s Early Education Advisory Committee include:

  • Outreach: Send a welcoming packet to all Melrose families of newborns, with a packet of information and resources.
  • Communication Efforts: A dedicated web page and email distribution signup for targeted early childhood programming and information.
  • Meeting Space: Secure drop-in meeting space for parents.

I am looking for a new parents group, is there one in Melrose?

Yes! Through our partners at the Melrose Family YMCA, a facilitated new parents group (0-12 months) will begin in March 2016 at the Melrose Public Library. This wonderful community resource will be free of charge to residents.

What networks for parents are available in the area?

There are many wonderful programming and resources in Melrose to help navigate parents of young children. Some of those options include:

What other social media networks/list serves are there?

What is the Melrose Kids Club and when is it?

The Melrose Kids Club is a FREE community event providing children’s entertainment held on the second Friday of each month (spring and fall)  at Memorial Hall, 590 Main Street, featuring entertainment for pre-school aged children as well as an opportunity for parents and caregivers to come together and network with each other.

Check the Memorial Hall Events Calendar or the City of Melrose Twitter (@CityOfMelrose), and the local papers for information on the entertainers for upcoming events. For more information, call the Mayor’s Office, 781-979-4440.
