City Hall & City Yard Open to the Public with Limited Hours and Access

Melrose City Hall will reopen to the public on Monday, July 27, with shorter hours (8:30 am - 12:30 pm) and strict controls to prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, residents are encouraged to continue to do business remotely whenever possible, via phone or the City of Melrose website.  A list of services available online can be found here.  You can find a complete list of online bill pay and other city hall transactions through our online payments page

The City of Melrose continues to offer a number of services online, including tax payments, requests for birth and death certificates, and building permit requests. Residents can access these services via the city website or by calling 781-979-4479. If you are unsure if you need to come to City Hall to take care of your business, please call ahead.

City Hall will be open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Visitors will enter and exit through a single entrance, the ground-floor door on the Main Street side. (This door is under the staircase to the first-floor door near the City Council Chamber.) As we can only accommodate a limited number of people at any time, it is possible you may have to wait in line to be admitted. All other entrances will be locked and staff will not admit anyone through those doors.

Staff will be on hand to greet visitors when they enter and will sign in and receive safety instructions. All visitors must wear a mask while in City Hall. Masks will be provided if necessary, and no one will be admitted without one. Hand sanitizer stations have been installed at each end of the hallway on each floor, and clear partitions have been installed in some offices.

The staff is working on staggered schedules, as offices are limited to 50% of capacity. Therefore, if a visitor needs to see a specific person it is recommended they call ahead.

The City Yard is open limited hours for self-service leaf and recycling drop-off. The hours are from 8 AM – 3 PM on Saturday and 7:30 AM – 2:45 PM on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The City Yard office is now set up for social distancing and will be open from 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM Monday through Friday. All residents are required to wear masks and practice safe physical distance while visiting the City Yard.
