Massachusetts continues to make good progress in carefully reopening, and we have moved into the second part of phase 2. We are learning from the experience of other states, however, that the failure to take this pandemic seriously and continue follow established public health best practices can lead to a resurgence of the virus. We simply cannot afford to move backward. That is why it remains so important for you and for the community that you continue to do things like using face coverings, maintaining social distancing, and washing your hands. You all deserve the credit for our tremendous success thus far. This is all about public health and community action, and with your continued help, we will be able to move ahead to phase 3.

Melrose Pride Week officially kicked off with a flag-raising at City Hall last Sunday! The Melrose Human Rights Commission, in partnership with the Foundation Trust, have many virtual and socially-distanced events planned throughout the week. You can find more information on the Melrose Human Rights Commission Facebook Page. One way you can celebrate all week is grab sidewalk chalk to draw/write messages, and/or decorate your doors and windows to celebrate Pride.

Also, the Melrose Public Library has curated a list of e-books for all ages in celebration of Pride. You can find the list on the MPL website or Facebook page. And tomorrow, there will be virtual musical performances by local artists. You can find more information about the entire schedule of events by visiting the Facebook page of the Melrose human Rights Commission.

Finally, we have some tremendous leaders in Massachusetts who have supported fairness and equality their entire careers, including Congresswoman Katherine Clark and Attorney General Maura Healy. I want to thank them for their leadership. Each has recorded a message to the residents of Melrose to help celebrate Pride. Take a look and remember that together, we will get through this.
