This is Mayor Paul Brodeur.

As many of you may know, our superintendent Cyndy Taymore is celebrating her last week as head of the Melrose Public Schools before she heads off to retirement. Those who wish to take part in a farewell car parade should gather in the MVMMS parking lot at noon. Mrs. Taymore is not one for pomp and pageantry, so please try to make it by if you are free.

Did you know the Melrose Farmers Market is open for socially-distanced business on Thursdays? You need an appointment to visit between noon and 2, and the market is-open to all from 2-5. Many vendors are offering pre-order/prepay options as well. Check out their website for more details.

Finally, we are approaching the fall primary, which is being held September 1 in Massachusetts. The House and Senate have both passed bills to make it easier to vote in September and November, and those bills have to be reconciled before they get to Governor Baker’s desk. Regardless of what those changes are, the Elections Office will be ready. One important thing to remember is that you must be registered if you want to vote. The deadline for the September primary is August 14. And remember, 16 & 17 year-olds can pre-register to vote. You can learn more at the Elections page on the city website.

Mark your calendars and get ready to cast your ballot. Let’s have a record turn-out here in Melrose.

Thanks for listening, continue to use face coverings and to socially distance. Most of all, remember that together we will get through this.
