Video Update for June 12

This is Mayor Paul Brodeur. Happy Friday Melrose, and welcome to the weekend. With this beautiful weather, I know many of you are going to be headed outside, which is great. Please don’t forget that we are still under phase 2 rules. Our parks and playgrounds are open with limitations. That means face coverings when you can’t socially distance are still the best public health practice.

Perhaps the best news about phase 2 and good weather is the outside dining has come to Melrose!! Several of our restaurants are taking advantage of the new rules, and I hope you will join me in eating local this weekend.

And an important reminder: As a result of the hard work of Ruth Clay and the Melrose and Wakefield Boards of Health, the city will be offering drive-through testing on Friday, June 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Testing is open to all people who live or work in Melrose or Wakefield. The testing will be performed by PhysicianOne Urgent Care.

Patients do not need to be current patients of PhysicianOne Urgent Care and must complete registration before Wednesday June 17 at 8pm. Patients can register for testing by going to https://physicianoneurgentcare.com/drive-through-covid-19-testing/ Follow the prompts for testing registration, click on “find next available visit”, and provide the required information. Your health insurance will be billed for the service. More information is also available on the city website, and you can call the Health Department with any questions.

Testing is an essential tool for containing the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We know that people are asymptomatic or may have mild symptoms may make others very ill. If you think there is any possibility you have been exposed through the virus, please register for testing. It is another way we can slow the pandemic and move on to stage 3.

Finally, thanks to the Melrose Chamber of Commerce, MelroseHelps volunteers delivered gift cards to local restaurants with the weekly drop-off of groceries. Remember that if you need assistance, MelroseHelps and the Melrose Emergency Fund are there for you. If you can help, please do. If you need help, please ask.

Have a great weekend and remember that together we will get through this.
