Stay Cool, Melrose!

We are expecting high heat and humidity over the next few days, so here are some pointers from mass.gov on staying cool:

  • Never leave children or pets in your car. Even with the windows cracked open, the temperature inside can go up almost 20 degrees in just 10 minutes.
  • Slow down and avoid strenuous activity.
  • Wear lightweight,loose-fitting clothing. Light colors reflect sunlight and may keep you cooler.
  • Drink plenty of water—even if you are not thirsty. Avoid drinks with alcohol, caffeine, or lots of sugar. If you must limit the amount you drink for medical reasons check with your doctor.
  • Stay out of the sun as much as possible, and do not leave pets outside for long periods of time.
  • If you don't have air conditioning in your house, stay on a low floor and out of the sun. Close the blinds on windows that get strong sunlight, and use fans to stay cool.
