Snow Update: Emergency Parking Ban, School Closings, and More on 1/7
Melrose is anticipating a significant snow storm that could begin as early as 2:00a.m. tomorrow, Friday January 7. We expect the City of Melrose to get as few as four inches and as many as 9. The Department of Public Works (DPW) will begin plowing tomorrow morning and will continue to plow throughout the day. The City of Melrose will be working hard to keep the streets safe and clear for you, and we are here if you need us. Here's what you need to know for tomorrow:
- The City of Melrose will implement an emergency parking ban from Friday at 6:00a.m. until Friday at 3:00p.m. (1/7). On-street parking is prohibited during this time.
- Melrose City Hall will be closed.
- The Melrose Schools will be closed.
- The Milano Center will be closed
- The City Yard will be closed.
- The Melrose Public Library will be closed tomorrow.
- We would appreciate residents' assistance in clearing catch basins, fire hydrants, and sidewalks in their neighborhood after the storm.
- Please do not shovel or plow snow into the street.
- If you are on Friday’s trash and recycling route, there will be trash and recycling pickup tomorrow by our contractor, JRM. Please put your materials out on the curb as usual and be patient as JRM works to collect them during the storm.
- Please do not put your trees out on the curb tomorrow as they will not be picked up. You can put your Christmas trees out on the curb Monday-Friday of next week (1/10 - 1/14) during your regularly scheduled recycling and trash pickup.
- We advise all residents to stay off the roads if possible Friday morning, both for your own safety and so we can clear the streets as efficiently as possible. If you must drive, please drive safely.
If you have any snow-related questions or problems, please call the DPW Operations Center at 781-665-0142. If the office is closed, please contact the Police Department’s business line at 781-665-1212. As always, in an emergency, call 911.
