Seasonal Updates from the Department of Public Works

The Melrose Department of Public Works would like to share with the Melrose community the following seasonal updates:

Yard Waste Collection

The final round of yard waste collection for the year 2022 will take place during the week of November 28 — December 2. To review the City's curbside collection calendar, visit https://www.cityofmelrose.org/solid-waste-recycling/pages/calendars-schedules. Community members can also drop off yard waste at the City Yard year-round during City Yard drop off hours only (noted below).

City Yard Seasonal Hours

After Saturday, December 3, the City Yard will no longer be open on Saturdays. The Yard will re-open on Saturdays in April 2023. The City Yard's winter hours (months of December, January, February, and March) are as follows:

Winter Moratorium

Every year, the City of Melrose imposes a Winter Moratorium for utility work in the right-of-way from November 15 until April 15 each year. No permits for water, sewer, gas or other services that take place in the public right of way will be issued during this time. In addition, No Work, PODS, dumpsters, or other activities that block the public right of way are allowed during this time.

Snow Removal Contractors

The City of Melrose is currently seeking vendors to provide plowing services for the 2022-2023 winter season. The City is offering competitive rates for all equipment, and vendors who can provide multiple pieces of equipment may qualify for premium rates. In addition, the Department of Public Works is also seeking plows, backhoes, loaders, and bobcats. For information and the seasonal packet, please call the City of Melrose DPW at 781-665-0142.
