A Message from Mayor Brodeur
Douglas Macdonald

Dear Melrose community members,

I regret to inform you that Melrose has lost one of its great residents and civic leaders, Douglas MacDonald.  Doug passed away peacefully at his home in Melrose on Monday, August 22, 2022, at age 81.

A proud Melrose resident, Doug served our community in many capacities, including as a member of the Melrose Board of Aldermen,  MBTA Advisory Board, and Cemetery Commission. His commitment, passion, and good humor were a model for all who serve the public.

Doug was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School in 1959, served in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman, 2nd Class, and following his honorable discharge in 1963, he graduated from Graham Jr. College. He then began a successful career working at MassBank, and later Eastern Bank and Winchester Savings Bank, until returning to his roots here in Melrose, where he worked at Melrose Bank until his retirement.
